Seefion exists because of an increasing number of incidents involving explosive battery fires
The danger of Lithium Ion fires is becoming increasingly well known. There are now several parties in the market offering battery storage cabinets. Parties that claim that these can withstand the force of a battery fire and possible explosion. In the absence of concrete European regulations and the availability of test results, it is not clear whether all cabinets offered are safe.
Safe battery storage is very important. This is why we asked test institute MPA in Dresden to evaluate the Seefion 16/20 lithium-ion battery safe test. Test result: fire and explosions remain inside the vault! This is an important step toward proven safe storage of lithium-ion batteries.
The test demonstrated that the Seefion safe prevents damage and provides valuable time to notify emergency services. With this test report in hand, Seefion has taken a big step toward proven safe storage of Lithium Ion batteries
Writing is currently underway on the PGS 37-2 standard for the safe storage of lithium-ion batteries. These regulations are based on the European EN 14470-1 standard originally intended for the storage of flammable substances.
The current EN-14470-1 standard does not take into account the explosions that can occur in a Lithium Ion fire. An EN 14470-1 cabinet protects the contents of the cabinet from an outside fire, but with lithium ion batteries there is actually a risk of fire inside the cabinet. Most battery cabinets that only comply with EN 14470-1 are fire resistant, but have simple hardware on the door. This hardware will not withstand a violent Lithium Ion fire and the explosions that occur during a terminal runaway of a Lithium Ion battery.
